The 7 Faces of God
A Video Series on the 7 Faces of God
A Video Series
On each mountain of culture there is an aspect of God, or face of God, that is being restored to society. In the same way that each of us is more than just a man or woman, we have many “faces” such as mother or father, daughter or son, doctor or nurse, teacher or police officer, etc. Who we are could potentially be experienced in a variety of ways. In much the same way God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—but who He is to us and for us can be experienced countless ways.
God As Communicator
God loves with His words and with the way He communicates. When we look at who God is as Communicator, we see that everything He’s about has to do with good news and good reports presented in the context of uplifting, restorative, redemptive, and relational conversation that’s rooted in hope—even when the facts may be difficult to hear. Even when God corrects, He always reveals a way out and a hopeful end. When He requires repentance, He contextualizes it in the promise of a good outcome, either in this life or for eternity. All communication started within the heart of a God who communicates.
God As Creator
God was first introduced to us as Creator in Genesis chapter one and He has never ceased being the Creator. In fact, creation itself shows us that He’s a compulsive creative! If we can’t see Him in this way we’re going to have a hard time bringing successful reformation to the Mountain of Arts & Entertainment. Many think our primary mission on this mountain is to bring values and the message of salvation to the big screen, but it really isn’t. Those are assignments for those on the Mountain of Religion where we showcase the Redeemer face of God. God is joyfully creative, and the manifestation of His creativity brings heaven’s wow factor with it to earth. His creativity always reveals His glory and it’s meant to deeply touch our emotions.
God As King
When we know God as King we become convinced of His absolute power and authority. He is the Ruler of heaven and earth and has all authority. After the cross Jesus boldly proclaimed in Matthew 28:18,“ALL authority in heaven AND EARTH is mine.” He temporarily lost legal authority on earth by means of Adam’s sin, but He regained that which was lost through the sacrifice of the perfect sinless blood of Jesus Christ.
God As Provider
Mammon gets overthrown when the lie behind Mammon gets overthrown by the truth of who God is as Provider. As we look at this aspect of God we see another beautiful face of the godhead. We remember that one of His primary names is Jehovah-Jireh, the God who is provision itself. From Genesis to Revelation we are shown a Provider God who delights in giving generously. He shared with Adam and Eve His abundance of fruit trees He had provided for them. He promised and gave Abraham abundance of wealth. He enticed the children of Israel to their Promised Land by telling them of the abundance of everything good that they would find there. Throughout the Old Testament those who loved and trusted Him found themselves overflowing in abundance of provision.
God As Redeemer
A redeemer is one who gains possession by payment or ransom. It’s the payment for a prisoner. We all came from the heart of God before He put us on earth, but we’re born lost and in need of being ransomed. All have sinned, and it’s sin that separates us from the privilege of living eternally with God. God the Redeemer, in His wonderful mercy, came in the person of Jesus Christ. God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son as a gift of righteousness to “whosoever will.” For the joy set before Him, He endured the cross and was willingly sacrificed. It is in Jesus that we see the perfect reflection of this face of God as Redeemer. This is the greatest love possible that the Godhead could possibly reveal to us. Greater love has no one than to lay His life down for another.
God As Teacher
Habakkuk 2:14 tells us that the end-game is “the knowledge of the glory of God covering the earth.” If the end-game is the true knowledge of God, then the entire process is a progressive education. As we look at the face of God as Teacher we see a God who cares more about us than what He’s trying to teach us. In our school systems, we’re generally made to feel that the instruction is actually more important than we are. A one- size-fits-all approach is taken and if we don’t happen to make that connection, we’re flunked. We’re just another number and we learn to bend to the system or we’re considered failures.
God As Papa
When we look into the face of God as Papa we see another strand of the love of God. Satan always comes to kill, steal, and destroy families by distorting our perspective of God through negative experiences with our earthly parents, especially our fathers. Our Heavenly Father always comes to heal, protect, and deliver. When we encounter Him as Papa we experience His heart of acceptance, which gives us the sense of belonging we were all meant to have. When we choose to acknowledge Him as our Father, we are adopted into the family of God.
